Clear information before a specialist eye visit

Start with a symptom, a diagnosis or the decision you are facing. These pages help patients and family decision-makers prepare useful questions without trying to diagnose an eye online.

Symptoms that need urgent attention

Sudden vision loss, a new curtain or shadow, a rapid shower of floaters or flashes, severe eye pain, or an eye injury should not wait for a website form. Seek urgent in-person eye care or emergency assessment.

Before the appointment

Bring the information that changes decisions

A prepared visit leaves more time for examination, options and questions.

  1. 01

Bring current glasses and a list or photographs of medicines and eye drops.

  2. 02

Carry relevant reports, scans, discharge notes and details of previous eye procedures.

  3. 03

Record the main symptoms, when they began and whether they are changing.

  4. 04

Bring information about diabetes, blood pressure, allergies and anticoagulant medicines.

  5. 05

Plan for dilating drops, which can blur near vision and increase light sensitivity for several hours.

  6. 06

Arrange a family member or driver when the clinic or treating team advises it.

After treatment

Your own instructions take priority

Recovery differs by diagnosis and procedure. General web guidance cannot replace the written plan from the treating team.

Medicines

Use drops and medicines exactly as prescribed. Do not stop or add treatment based on a general web page.

Protection

Follow procedure-specific advice about water, rubbing, shields, lifting, travel and driving.

Warning signs

Contact the treating service without delay for worsening pain, redness, discharge or a meaningful drop in vision.
